Mission Statement
The mission of CGS is
to provide scientific products and
services about the state's geology,
seismology and mineral resources
including their related hazards, that
affect the health, safety, and business
interests of the people of California.
CGS Vision Statement
CGS is regarded as
the primary source of geological and
seismological products and services for
decision making by California's
government agencies, its businesses and
the public.
1. Increase the use
of CGS products and services in order
to improve the quality of
decision-making by local
jurisdictions, professional
consultants, and private persons
regarding the public's health and
safety, its economy, and its business
decisions.
2. Develop and
maintain the highest technical and
professional expertise of CGS staff
through formal training programs,
scientific and technical conferences,
and continuing education activities.
3. Develop and
maintain a succession planning program
to actively transfer institutional
knowledge, promote current staff, and
recruit new talent.
