A magnitude 6.5 earthquake occurred at 19:15:56 (UTC) on Monday,
December 22, 2003 in the area of San Simeon, California.
The hypocentral depth was estimated to be 8 km (5 miles). The
earthquake resulted in the deaths of two people and injuries to
at least 40 people in the Paso Robles-Templeton area. At least
40 buildings collapsed. The earthquake was felt throughout much
of Central California.
