SACRAMENTO – A state
grant program aimed at improving local
watersheds will conduct workshops around
the state in October to discuss the
application process.
The workshops will be
held in Merced, La Habra, Anderson,
Oakland and Rancho Cordova (details
below).
The California
Department of Conservation has partnered
with the California Bay Delta Authority
(CALFED) to offer grants primarily in
watersheds that contribute or receive
water from the Bay-Delta System. The
grant program is intended to fund
watershed coordinators for a three-year
period. Funding will be provided through
Proposition 50 beginning in Spring 2004.
The Request for
Proposals (RFP), the formal applications
for grant money, has been released.
Proposals are due November 17. Questions
about the RFP must be received by 5 p.m.
October 24. The RFP is available on the

Questions asked at these workshops will
be compiled, answered and posted to the
Web site.
This is an expansion
of a $2 million pilot program that in
2000 funded watershed coordinators for
Resource Conservation Districts. The
program is open to qualified locally
based non-profit organizations, special
districts, and local governments.
Proposals must demonstrate a direct
benefit to the watershed and support the
goals and objectives of the CALFED
Watershed Program and at least one other
CALFED program.
