On August 8, 2005, Governor
Schwarzenegger announced the
appointment of Bridgett Luther as director of the Department of
Conservation.
"Bridgett shares my
dedication to protecting our environment
and ensuring our natural resources are
wisely conserved," said Governor
Schwarzenegger. "Her professional
experience combined with her passion for
resource conservation qualifies her
uniquely to lead our state's crucial
conservation efforts. I look forward to
working with her to develop creative and
innovative ways to ensure California's
incredible natural beauty is preserved
for generations to come."
Luther has served
as the regional development director for
Hands On Bay Area since 2004. In this
capacity she has managed fundraising and
developed partnerships with a variety of
public and private entities in the
five-county Bay Area region for this
volunteer management non-profit
organization. Luther previously was
national development director for
Republicans for Environmental Protection
from 2003 to 2004 and program director
for the Trust for Public Land in
Charlotte, NC, from 1999 to 2003. She
also served as a member of the Regional
Water Quality Advisory Board for
Mecklenburg County, NC, and the Mountain
Island Lake Three County Advisory Board
from 1999 to 2003. Luther was a
residential real estate broker from 1987
to 1998 for Keegan & Company Real Estate
of Charlotte, NC. She is a member of
both the Sierra Club and the Wilderness
Society.

our obligations tomorrow by ensuring the
sensible use and conservation of energy,
land and mineral resources."
Luther, 50, of San
Francisco, earned a Bachelor of Arts
degree from Vanderbilt University, a
certificate in non-profit management
from Duke University and a certificate
from the Indiana University School of
Philanthropy. This position requires
Senate confirmation and the compensation
is $108,753. Luther is a Republican.
The Department of
Conservation provides services and
information that promote environmental
health, economic vitality, informed
land-use decisions and sound management
of our state's natural resources. With a
team of scientists and other dedicated
professionals, the Department of
Conservation administers a variety of
programs designed to balance today's
needs with tomorrow's obligations by
fostering the wise use and conservation
of energy, land and mineral resources.
